Steve Burdon

Steve joined the Army (Royal Engineers) at the age of 16. He spent majority of a 24-year career serving with the Commando Engineers.

 

Once retired from the army Steve achieved his Chartered Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health. He successfully moved into corporate industry as a construction safety professional, rising to Divisional level for five of the UK’s major house building businesses. Following this, Steve worked for one of the UK’s leading quarries in the extractive industry. Steve then moved to manage a Health & Safety Consultancy becoming one of the lead instructors for one of the lead providers in the UK for height, confined spaces & water rescue before setting up SA&R in 2013.

Safety specific

Since 2007 Steve, has specialised in safe working practices for Confined Spaces, Working at Height and Water near, in & over water. In 2008 Steve won a National award for developing a safe system of work & training course for safe entry into industrial confined spaces including rescue. In 2010 Steve become a lead instructor for Confined Space Access & Rescue Course (CONSAR), Safe Working at Height including Rescue, Tower Rescue courses & was the project lead in accrediting an Industrial Confined Space Access and Rescue course as a National Level 3 Qualification. In Jan 2013 Steve spent 2 ½ years training and managing a 21-man technical rescue and medical response team one of the largest construction projects in the world.

 

Steve now is the managing director of Safety Access & Rescue Ltd, who is contracted as the subject matter expects to provid access, egress & technical rescue support to one of the largest oil & gas construction projects in the world.
